Student presentation: part 1

time to complete: 10-15 minutes

Now, you will practise listening to a student presentation and complete tasks to check your understanding. The presentation has been split into three parts and each part comes with two tasks, followed by the transcript where the answers have been highlighted for you. Once, you finish with Part 1, move on to the next page.

Part 1

Task 1: Listen to Part 1 of the presentation and put the following ideas in the order you hear them.

Task 2: Listen to Part 1 again and decide which of the statements below are true.

Thank you. So hello everyone again. Welcome and thank you all for coming today. First, I would like to introduce myself. I’m Ashwaq, a second-year PhD student. My research interest in community health nursing and health disparities. So today my presentation will focus… it’s a part of my research, which is conducting a scoping review, focusing in… on barriers and facilitators to accessing healthcare among rural areas in Saudi Arabia.

So in this presentation, I will start with introduction, defining the… define the meaning and importance of access healthcare. And define the… what’s the meaning of scoping review for those who are not familiar with this type of the review. Then, I will talk about the aim of scoping review, how to conduct the scoping review, which guide me to identify what we know and what we do not know about the… this field.

So let me start with this comprehensive definition, which is proposed by Levesque. So I think most people interpreted access like the ability of patient to reach to the healthcare facilities. But, the access to the healthcare it’s going beyond to just reach the healthcare facilities, to include more dimensions that determine the access to the healthcare. So, you can see I just made some colours here because this is all dimensions related to access to the healthcare or define that access to the healthcare. So this is a start from how to patient perceive their healthcare needs and how they seek healthcare services. Also, how the patient reach the healthcare resources and use it based on their… their needs. So this is the definition of access to the healthcare. And I want to just remember these dimensions because it’s related to the… to the results of a scoping review.

So, why I’m caring about access to the healthcare for rural women? Because from international evidence, we found that women who are living in rural areas, they have poorer house, compared to the women who are living in urban areas. Also, as you know, womens deserve more attention because they’re reproductive and maternity health. And still unfortunately they experience more barriers compared to the men. Also the, you know, access to the healthcare can impact on the quality of life. And this is extend to the whole family because that woman is the… women are the primary caregivers for their family.

So here I would like to ask you if you heard about or if you conducting scoping review before. I want to hear about your thoughts or definition. So, does anyone conduct scoping review before?
